The Archives has no physical address. The exhibition rooms, however, are open.
The Shibuya Higashi Archives is a museum that appears on no map. It therefore has no physical address, no opening hours, no closing days, no entrance, no reception desk, no umbrella stand, no coin lockers, and no sound of a guard’s footsteps.
How to Visit
Before your visit.
To visit, launch the official exhibitions app. The moment it opens, the exhibition spaces of the Archives are generated in the palm of your hand. Because each generated room differs slightly from visitor to visitor, no two routes through the same exhibition are ever quite identical.
Conversation, note-taking, screenshots, and quiet dialogue with the works are all welcome. We ask, however, that you refrain from demanding explanations of the works in a loud voice. Some are still in the middle of considering what they are.
Information
Information.
- Hours
- As a rule, the permanent exhibition may be viewed at any time. Loading may take some time, however, depending on your connection, the condition of your device, your judgment late at night, and the disposition of the works themselves.
- Closed days
- None are set. To preserve the silence of the stores as a whole, however, the screen may darken without notice. Should this occur, please allow a little time, and visit again.
- Address
- The Archives is said to be on the east side of Shibuya. The exact address is not made public — not for reasons of secrecy, but because the Archives has not yet built a sufficient relationship of trust with the institution of the address.
- Admission
- The permanent exhibition, Jirinpa, is free of charge. A separate fee may be set for special exhibitions, for limited displays and content, and for the afterglow attached to certain works in the collection.
- During your visit
- Move slowly through the screen, touch the characters and the works, and wait for the display to move. Long gazing is welcome. You may, however, be gazed back at.
